Rag week round-up
Callum Forster
St Andrews hosted its annual Rag week, this year sponsored by KPMG, with the usual vast array of events. Rag weeks organisers declared themselves delighted with how the week had run, with the wide variety of events proving immensely popular whilst raising a remarkable amount of money for charity, in just a single week.
Each night saw a flagship event being hosted in Venue One of the Union, with notable events including Mr St Andrews, St Andrews Got Talent, the Amateur Transplants and Catwalk. Rag Week co-ordinator Caitlin Arbuthnott declared herself delighted with the popularity of all the events.
In particular the diversity of events on offer this year has led to it being regarded by some as the best line up Rag Week has ever had. Arbuthnott was keen to highlight Mr St Andrews and Catwalk, describing Catwalk as a memorable show that will go down in Rag Week History.
Mr St Andrews was once again a big hit, raising more than £3,000 in one night.
Wednesday night saw St Andrews Got Talent, take centre stage. The event, which was promoted from Venue Two to Venue One this year, was hailed as an enormous success and was held purely in aid of UNICEF.
Students with an incredible array of talents were given the opportunity to entertain their fellow students. Acts included a magician, a beatboxer and an electric harp player, with the winners proving to be Tom and Holly, a two-piece acoustic cover band.
Rag Week continued to once again be a valuable week for its charitable causes. So far, the week has raised more than £16,000 with money still being collected.
The money will be distributed to this years six nominated charities: Médecins Sans Frontières, Young Heroes, The Childrens Hospice Association Scotland, People and Planet, Cancer Research UK and Everyman. Rag Week continues to go from strength to strength.
