Through recent Facebook posts, St Andrews Students’ Association has been promoting Marks Out of Tenancy, a landlord and letting agent review website.
Marks Out of Tenancy allows tenants to leave TripAdvisor-style reviews, as well as rate and search landlords, letting agencies, properties and areas. Landlords and letting agents can be rated on factors such as communication, attitude, speed, value for money and quality of repairs.
Since the Union’s promotion of the website, St Andrews’ tenants have increased the amount of reviews on properties in the area over one hundred per cent, boosting the number from twenty-two to forty-seven. This means that St Andrews now has a greater total of reviews on the website than Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen combined.
According to Association President, Jamie Rodney, the surge in the website’s reviews could be beneficial in solving a pressing issue for students in St Andrews.
“Housing has been a perennial problem for St Andrews students, so it’s great that more students are making use of a tool which lets them reward good landlords, punish bad ones and increase transparency,” says Mr Rodney.
“I’d encourage all students to take five minutes to leave a review and make renting in St Andrews fairer.”
