Established in 2001, DONT WALK has become an infamous player on the St Andrews’ events stage. With a large, devoted team and a good reputation, the event this year promises to be pretty special. DONT WALK seems to be in touch with a more experimental and dark artistic vision, which Creative Director Theodora Chia highlights is entirely intentional.
She says, “DONT WALK 2019 symbolises a return to our deepest roots. I wanted to play with the inherently dark and controversial nature of DONT WALK and push it even further. By exploring and embracing various nuances of the human condition we aim towards an introspection. Where last year we carried our guests through an outer space experience, this year we hope to bring them towards the allegorical nucleus of the Earth: the Inferno.”
In the photos of the DONT WALK models, they can be seen posing in slick, black leather attire, staring intensely into the camera lens, whilst a snake coils itself around their bodies. If this doesn’t fit the vision that the creative director paints in her quote then I don’t know what does. Not only will the event be fun and fascinating for fashion and art lovers alike, but it is also supporting a good cause.
DONT WALK is working in support of two amazing non-profit organisations: Families First St Andrews and the Robin Hood Foundation. In going to the event, you are not only supporting your artistic peers, but you are also taking part in raising money for important charitable initiatives.
Their website states that “DONT WALK emerged from the desire to make a difference, to protest against the failures of neutrality, and in time to use change to accomplish great things around the world.” So much love and energy gets poured into planning DONT WALK each year, and this year seems no different. The team is committed to following through with their promise of an exciting and captivating charity fashion show, so this event is certainly one you won’t want to miss.
