The Saint is to host a debate this Thursday (14 April) on the upcoming referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union.
The debate will be held along with St Andrews Students for Europe and St Andrews Students for Britain, the two student groups representing each side of the debate.
The Saint will moderate a panel of six people, three from each side.
Two St Andrews students, Sean McLaughlin and Ian Donnell (Chair of Conservative Future Scotland) will lead the ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ sides of the debate, respectively.
Joining Mr McLaughlin on the ‘Remain’ side will be John Edward, a senior campaigner for StrongerIn, the official national organisation in favour of remaining in the EU, and John Purvis, a former member of the European Parliament.
On the side of ‘Leave’ alongside Mr Bundy will be Braden Davy, the Assistant Director of Vote Leave, one of the groups campaigning to exit the EU, and Nigel Griffiths, a former deputy speaker of the House of Commons.
In its capacity as moderators, The Saint will be asking students to submit questions to ask the panel in advance of the debate.
The debate will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Buchanan Lecture Theatre.
