Mac and cheese 

When polling my friends about their favourite comfort foods, macaroni and cheese got the most votes by far. (Perhaps this was because of the disproportionate amount of American respondents.) This is an easy microwaveable version, and it is no doubt cheaper to make than to buy – especially in large quantities.

Ingredients:

As much macaroni pasta as you would like

1/3 of a tablespoon of flour

A tablespoon of milk

Tons of cheddar cheese

Directions:

1. Fill a mug with as much pasta as can fit.

2. Fill the mug with enough water to just cover the macaroni. Cover the mug with cling-film

3. Microwave for four minutes. Try some pasta, and cook as needed if undercooked.

4. Drain the pasta.

5. In a separate mug, mix the flour, milk and a little bit of water. Add to the pasta.

6. Grate a ton of cheese on top and stick back in the microwave for a couple of minutes until the cheese is fully melted.

7. Stir to combine and enjoy.

Bacon sarnie

If you want scrambled eggs with this, it is really a very simple addition. Just whisk the eggs as normal and cook in a microwave-save mug for 45 seconds. Stir, and then cook for until 30 to 45 seconds until set.

Ingredients:

Bacon

Butter

Tomato ketchup

Bread roll

Directions:

1. Put paper towels on a microwave-safe dish, layer the bacon and then add more paper towels on top.

2. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until it’s at your desired level of crisp.

3. Butter or ketchup the roll to your preference (butter and ketchup is the ultimate).

4. Combine and munch!

Chocolate fudge pudding

Though this is the most complex recipe included here, it is arguably the most rewarding one too.

Ingredients:

100g self raising flour

100 g caster sugar

Pinch of salt

4 tablespoons milk

25g cocoa

50g butter

1 egg

1 dessert spoon vanilla extract

100g brown sugar

25g cocoa

150ml water

Directions:

1. Melt butter.

2. Add all the rest of the pudding ingredients and beat.

3. Pour into a greased one-litre microwaveable pudding bowl.

4. Mix the dry sauce ingredients (the brown sugar and cocoa) and sprinkle over the uncooked pudding mixture.

5. Heat up the water and pour over the top.

6. Microwave for 5 minutes.

Nachos 

Very little effort is required for a gloopy cheesy masterpiece, so don’t wait around to try this recipe.

Ingredients:

Tortilla chips

Cheese

Guacamole

Salsa

Directions:

1. Get a mug.

2. Layer tortilla chips and cheese until it almost reaches the top.

3. Zap the mug until the cheese is melted.

4. Dollop guacamole, salsa and sour cream into the mug.

5. Enjoy!

Cookies

Avoid the difficult process of quartering a raw egg by quadrupling the recipe and sharing with your friends. (Or enjoy the three additional cookies yourself.)

Ingredients:

10g caster sugar

10g brown sugar

10 g flour

10g butter

1/4 egg

Chocolate chips

Directions:

1. Mix everything together except for the chocolate chips until smooth.

2. Gently stir in the chocolate chips.

3. Roll balls of cookie dough and place on microwave-safe plates.

4. Cook for 1-2 minutes

5. Enjoy!
