Women’s football on the rise

The newly-created Women’s 3rd XI enjoyed their first university football match recording a 1-0 victory over a Dundee development squad. This is symbolic of the club’s dynamism and positive evolution – at the beginning of the 2011 season the club boasted one team. The desire to alter the perception of women’s football and integrate a performance orientated programme with a social aspect was achieved through the inclusion of a 2nd XI who competed in BUCS in the 2012/13 season. The impressive advancement in women’s football was epitomised through the victories of both the Women’s 1st and 2nd XI in their respective BUCS leagues (2a and 3a) last year. The introduction of a 3rd XI represents the consistent development the club strives to maintain and will ensure the longevity and success of this sport in the years to come.
