A crowd-funded statue of Hamish the town cat is planned to be unveiled on Saturday 5 April.
Last year Flora Selwyn, the editor of St Andrews in Focus, launched a campaign to have the statue erected with the support of the St Andrews Partnership. Over £5,000 was raised to fund the statue, sculpted by artist David Annand.
On 5 April it will go on display in Logies Lane, close to Sue Ryder Care, a favourite haunt of Hamish. It was initially reported there would be a cat-themed party to celebrate the statue, but plans are yet to be revealed.
With more Facebook friends than almost any other St Andrews resident, Hamish has many friends around town. He has relied on the generosity of townsfolk and students for years, after leaving home at the age of one. His original owner Marianne Baird takes him for regular health check ups – when she can find him.
