Update 5 August 2013: The closure of the Argos store in St Andrews has now been postponed until 28 September 2013.

The sole Argos branch in St Andrews is to close at the end of July, it emerged today.

Argos announced the closure of the store, located on South Street, via a poster displayed in the front window. The poster states that the store will close on 26 July and recommends Cupar and the Dundee Overgate shopping centre as the nearest branches.

The move will no doubt come as a blow to students and locals alike who rely on Argos for a wide range of goods unavailable elsewhere in town. No reason was given for the closure.

An application has been lodged for planning permission to turn the store into two restaurants and seven flats.

Argos declined to comment.

  1. Planning permission has been applied for to make the property a restaurant and a lot of flats. I’m putting my money on McDonalds or Burger King – perfect for that Madras lunchtime rush!
