The police were alerted by the Forth Coastguard after a walker discovered the clothed body close to where the beach
meets the cliff, below the Kinkell Braes caravan park.
A Fife police spokesman said: “An inquiry has been launched and is at an early stage. However, initial indications are that there are no suspicious circumstances.”
As investigations continue, police are unsure whether the man fell from the cliff or had been washed ashore.
The police suspect that the man was not a local and are reportedly working with their counterparts in Strathclyde, seeking to trace his relatives.
Police recovered the body with the assistance of the coastguard and the beach, which has played host to May Dip revellers for the last two years, left, was reopened to the public by 5.30pm.
